Love for keeps.

Today. The 27th of April...

We celebrate ten years of patience, ten years of kindness, of taking care of each other. May we continue to learn to lay everything at the feet of Jesus. Happy Anniversary, Baby.

Here's to a whole lifetime of real love.

My Keeper Still

Meditating on Psalm 121 tonight.

From the King James version of the Bible, Psalm 121 reads:

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

The Lord is my keeper. And The Lord protects the people who repose confidence in Him, with full surrender.

All my help is laid up in the power, providence, faithfulness and goodness of Jesus Christ.

He has kept me and will make all things excellent and beautiful in His time.

If I may share a song that blessed my heart tonight, the lyrics:

Jesus! what a strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in him;
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my Strength, my vic’try wins.

Hallelujah! what a Savior!
Hallelujah! what a friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end...

Amen.

New Find : Xena by Flojos

My eyes hit the hanging pairs with soles that looked like an egg crate foam. I thought: they look comfortable, so they must be indeed.

Let me give you the good points why I considered getting them for myself:

  • Xena is super soft & comfortable like I'm stepping on carpet with each stride.
  • I liked the color -- Black Grape variant. It's not literally black but dark grey.
  • The base rubber is durable.
Right! Check out Flojos Xena.

They're not sexy to look at. But they practically make feet feel good. That's what matters.

Here's to being foot wise,

Pamper your walk.

I like podiatric stuff. Wear good footwear so gait is natural. I've had my share of uneasy existence because I was scrimping from buying the best ones. Too much of excessive sparing that you cannot think normal.

Enter FitFlop. or the Happy Feet Clogs. I take them as the best of all in my stuff.
  • Because my heels get painful when walking a lot.
  • Because I understand that I need to take care of my feet. Orientals even do healing through the feet.
  • Because I want something that's not too drab. FitFlop has really trendy colors as well. Happy Feet sandals, too.
  • Because I want to walk with a nice bounce.
  • Because, above all considerations, I don't want to wince in pain for ill fitting kickers.
I am just concerned with the counterfeit products that have been appearing all over Facebook. Things like this:

Walkstar 3, complete with Warning tag in Havaianas hanger:

They also make a lot of styles & colors for top brands. That's how amazing counterfeiting technology in Asia is. Chinatown in Davao has a bountiful stock of them: Crocs, Ipanema, Havaianas, FitFlop, Old Navy, Nike, Adidas, Puma. Name it, you can find them from 65Php to something like 500Php.

But, if the HavaFlop fits, then by all means wear it. But don't blush if the straps rip out & the soles prefer to lean better on one side. They don't make very good walking equipment, either. I admit, they don't last long and you simply get money wasted.

Let me share one secret: It pays to wear the authentic ones, if you're looking for foot therapy and long term use. More value for money, too.

Here's to feeling good becuz feet are comfortable,

Creamy Tropical Fruit Combo

Aye, here am I again posting some food pics for all foodies. Who doesn't want eating, anyway. I tell you a secret... this is really good food. Yep, only in the Philippines, though.

Here are the pics of my recent creamy fruit combo made from tropical fruits, for your eyes to delight on:

Ripe avocado

Young coconut meat

Banana

Mango

Put them together.

Mix the condensed milk & cream.
Slather on the bowl of fruits above.
Ratio: 1 tetra pack of cream: 1/3 tetra pack of c. milk.

This is how it looked after I mixed the dressing. Not too sweet. Real creamy.
Place in the freezer.

Here's to the homebody me,

Supah Spicy And Hatch Hatch Hatch!

Howdy, my friends. It's been a week that I was slacking on writing again. Here's what I would like to share today: some pics on my super spicy hot hot hot shrimp dish.

Simmering on the pan.

Looks good on the plate!

Haa. Tasted like fay-aaaah. Where's my glass of wa-taaah?

Do remember today: Get out of your comfort zone and have fun with life. Live on the edge.

May you live an interesting life, lovees.

Press On. Yes, Hope On.

To hope is to become an optimist;
It sees the dawn, it dispels fear.
It prods us, Go! Oh, we press on!

Behold Romans 8:28 which gives us the true state of our lot:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose..."

Psalm 84 in Poetry

David's Heart's Desire
by Thomas Pierson (1570-1633)

O Lord of hosts, how lovely in mine eyes
The tents where thou dost dwell!
For thine abode my spirit faints and sighs;
The courts I love so well.

My longing soul is weary
Within thy house to be;
This world is waste and dreary,
A desert land to me.

The sparrow, Lord, hath found a sheltered home,
The swallow hath her nest;
She layeth there her young, and though she roam,
Returneth there to rest.

I, to thine altar flying,
Would there for ever be;
My heart and flesh are crying,
O living God, for thee!

How blest are they who in thy house abide!
Thee evermore they praise.
How strong the man whom thou alone dost guide,
Whose heart doth keep thy ways.

A pilgrim and a stranger,
He leaneth on thine arm;
And thou, in time of danger,
Dost shield him from alarm.

From strength to strength through Baca's vale of woe,
They pass along in prayer,
And gushing streams of living water flow,
Dug by their faithful care;

Thy rain is sent from heaven
To fertilise the land,
And wayside grace is given
Till they in Zion stand.

Lord God of hosts, attend unto my prayer!
O Jacob's God, give ear!
Behold, O God, our shield, we through thy care,
Within thy courts appear!

Look thou upon the glory
Of thine Anointed's face;
In him we stand before thee,
To witness of thy grace!

One day with thee excelleth over and over
A thousand days apart;
In thine abode, within thy temple door,
Would stand my watchful heart.

Men tell me of the treasure
Hid in their tents of sin;
I look not there for pleasure,
Nor choose to enter in.

Own then the Lord to be thy Sun, thy Shield—
No good will he withhold;
He giveth grace, and soon shall be revealed
His glory, yet untold.

His mighty name confessing,
Walk thou at peace and free;O Lord, how rich the blessing
Of him who trusts in thee!

Do I really want more?

“God’s gifts put man’s best dreams to shame.”
- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

What makes man happy? For a moment I pondered and thought of material things. Nope. They are only instruments in making our lives comfortable. But when we have tried each and every thing we wanted, we can conclude in the end that they are not that necessary.

Buying a new thing. Indeed, I would be excited to discover that thing when it comes to my possession. Then come weeks after I acquired that one, I would lose interest in it.

Going places. Sure, travel is really fun. I get to meet people, and see the other corners of this earth. After I have taken a peek at these places, I want to go home.

Acquiring knowledge. Getting new information and learning technology is great. I cannot be more adept when my knowledge of something is wanting. I have to equip myself with enough knowledge to be competitive. But it does not make me happy at all. It fails to give satisfaction because everyday, technology and systems are changing. There is no end to acquiring information.

Money. Ooops, here. I have been earning more than I have thought I could for a person who stays at home. I got a terrific homebased job, great setting, good pay. I got my bucks, but when I look at them, money does not give me happiness. Every now and then, bills come-- I have to pay this, pay that, go to this place, need to give something to someone... I cannot call that a stable way of gaining joy. Money comes flying out of my hand as fast as it came.

I pursue contentedness, and it makes me want to live in simplicity. I am no rich person, but I got more than I wanted. That is enough.

What makes me happy?

A walk in the forest.
Cuddling.
Laughing with Ed.
Time with sisters.
Eating corn.
Play.
Tending my garden.
Writing.
Roses.
Work a little.

I have God. I am incredibly secure in Him that I cannot afford to be discontented.

There is no time to be confused. My life is a journey, not for show-off. I want to appreciate every moment of it, surrounded with the right people. Then, who can want for more?

No Fear, He is Near

It's Wednesday afternoon. Here, in the midst of work, I kept pondering on one thing. God does care so much. He does.

It was two weeks ago that our little Nicole went into the operating room for her heart surgery. It was not very easy. The procedure that should have taken two hours was stretched to 6 hours more or less. Open heart surgery for a birth defect- hole in the heart.

My sister (Nicole's Mama) was alone in the hospital trembling for her child in prayer. I know that she had no one near to talk to. But there was God. That was all she needed and no person can fill in for that comfort.

I have cried and cried that day. Fear. The human heart cannot help but fear. It's such a frail thing compared to the darkness that seemed to surround. It was a day of immense supplication. That God would allow us to enjoy her for a longer time.

Nicole, 10 days after she underwent heart surgery.

I know every little thing is not ours at all. Not even the family we have. We don't own any people, not any cent, or any single possession because man is only allowed to hold some things for a season. Until things are taken from us.

Yet, God did answer my prayers. Nicole was walking after three days, and did not feel any pain. She was back to the happy kid she was and smiling and getting into the normal course of things. She is strong, and she wants to be strong for her two little brothers. Isn't that wonderful. Yes, indeed, God loves us to the fullest.

I have once again proven, that God is always near. There is no need to fear anything. Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Faith and Change

The faith that saves you, is the faith that changes you.

Been to the place of worship this morning. My husband was teaching Sunday School so we had to be early. There were a lot of things gone beserk, the customers calling for emergency supply of gases, the car not in good shape, etc. The evil one places so much obstacles in our path. But--

Christ be exalted. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Amen.

Comfort From Home

I just found myself musing over what to eat for lunch and I had thought of many. Scrumptious on my mind -- beyond any doubt. These are food that the real Pinoy's tummy craves for. When one dines on any of these, it just tells you, “It’s good to be near the cook and the kitchen.” ohh. No. It's good to be home.

I can certainly tell that the bowls and platters I'm going to share below will make any probinsyano long for home [and the kitchen] and the people that make the unpretentious bahay a very special place. Bahay is a place where one comes to eat, rest, sleep, and be with the family. Bahay is simply home.

Inside my head right now: When I grow old, I want to build my own bamboo cottage and stay there, and fill it with nice things, beautiful flowers, palm trees and bamboo, kalamansi, gulay and many others. It really feels good when I look into days of serenity in my own version of a cottage in the farm. I'm going to leave my subdivision home, take my hubby with me and we will live free range. I mean, a quiet life, like the other creatures. Chill.

In the midst of this busy life, who cannot think of retiring? The old ones said, marami ka pang kakaining bigas. I mumbled, bigas nga at mahabang lakbay pa. A long way still.

But before I get sidetracked with future things, I'm going to bring myself into the present with these definitely delightful Pinoy comfort foods. Oy! Masarap nga talaga pagkaing ganito. Para sa isang kagaya ko.

This is the Arroz Caldo. A porridge made of stewed & browned chicken cooked in sticky rice, and garnished with lotsa fried garlic and sliced green onion leaves. Terrific... nom nom nom.

The best loved Chicharon. Made of pork skin, boiled and fried to achieve that crispy texture. Usually paired with vinegar with a dash of small chilis -- super hot variety from the Philippines. A small amount of vinegar from a bottle of Pinakurat makes everything perfect!

Lovely, yummy, grilled Pusit! This is a local specie of squid that grows up to 1 foot long. Some are served in banana leaves for a more appetizing presentation in green. Some are grilled and placed in sizzling plates, like this one.

This red is a hothead. Alimango sa Gata at Curry or Crab Curry. It can also be cooked with chili-- you like mild or wild? I can subsist on this weekly. Chica mia on cholesterol diet.

Fresh Lumpia. Vegetables wrapped in crepe slathered with garlic white sauce or peanut sauce that's slightly sweet. Tempting treat! My only source for the moment is Goldilocks and Jaltan, a local native food store in Davao.

Oye, Mr. Bacon turned into Lechon. This is the legendary roast pig with its crunchy, crispy, browned skin, the meat is full of flavor. This goes well with a sauce of kalamansi, toyo, vinegar and chili. Some like to eat it with liver sauce. Found in almost every party in and out of town.

For the bronco, Bulalo. Numero uno favorite of beef eaters in the country! A soup made of beef shank with its marrow, cooked with vegetables, pepper, lemongrass and corn cob.

oops, and don't forget-- the Chinese legacy of the...................

Noodles all strewn, all colorful-- the Bihon. Ay, I can eat this everyday. Rice noodles in thin strands cooked with stewed chicken liver, pork cutlets, shrimp and sometimes, with shellfish. They are transparent when cooked but the seasoning colors it and throws the flavor into the heap. A small platter of this truly makes my day. Here, have some.

I would remember they call me Chibog when I was little. Huh, it all comes back... the reality that I really love food. Any happy kid would love to eat. Right?

One more thing, Pinoy food is certainly the best. That is, for me. Mabuhay ka Juan at Ineng. Mabuhay.
